How to find the right bottle of wine?

Finding the wine that matches your tastes, expectations and wallet is often a headache.

So a few ways to get there!

Buy your wine from the producer

Buying from the producer is and will remain the best option. You avoid intermediaries and generally benefit from a more attractive “ex-cellar” price. In addition, you often have the opportunity to taste before you buy and learn about the history of the wine. And you will see, you will have more pleasure opening a bottle whose origin you know.

Buy your wine at the cellar

Buying from the wine merchant is a good solution when you want to be advised and discover new bottles. In general, the wine merchant has already made a selection, he has normally only chosen good bottles. But beware, more and more wine merchants belong to chains: the wines offered are produced specifically for them, not always with an objective of quality but above all of profitability. Some wine merchants are not always able to provide you with the advice you are looking for, but fortunately there are still some who know how to pass on their knowledge and their passion!

Buy your wine in supermarkets

Buying in a supermarket is quite possible. 80% of us buy our wine in supermarkets. Be aware that the Houses and estates that sell in supermarkets change the label but offer the same type of wine as at the property. The quality can be there. However, beware of promotions and low prices. Making a good wine for a low price is an equation that has still not been resolved! In addition, favor recent references that have not remained too long under the spotlights or choose the bottle at the back that will have benefited from the darkness. The wine will be less tired.

Buy your wine at trade shows or wine fairs

What about wine fairs? You can do good business! But find out about the references offered or taste a sample before buying boxes. The worst meets the best!

Finally, more and more fairs are developing, such as those for independent winegrowers. This is an opportunity to meet several producers in the same place, to be able to compare for the same appellation, to taste while taking advantage of the ex-cellar price. However, try to target your research, you risk being lost and tiring your palate from tasting too much.

Remember: wine is pleasure and moderation!
