Getaway in Bordeaux

Do you know that Pomerol was predestined to be a great wine city? Indeed, its etymology would come from the Latin Pomum, which means fruit with pips to designate in particular the grape!

The Pomerol appellation

Pomerol is a communal appellation in eastern Bordeaux. This town is located between Libourne and Saint-Emilion. The Pomerol wines have never been the subject of any particular classification, unlike the wines of the Médoc.

Pomerol wines

Pomerol wines are only red wines, mainly from the Merlot grape variety. There is also Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, completing the famous trio of Bordeaux grape varieties.

The soil of Pomerol

The clay soils allow the Merlot grape variety to fully express itself. The subsoil would contain iron oxides, giving such a special character to the Crus de Pomerol. The wines produced are renowned for their finesse and good persistence in the mouth.

Would you like some more Petrus?

Pomerol's most famous wine is Petrus. It is one of the greatest wines of Bordeaux. Two characteristics differentiate it from the Grands Crus Classés of the Médoc: this wine does not bear the mention château, because there is no establishment on the estate and it is made from a single grape variety… Merlot!
